Adsorption and Oxidation of Thiocyanate on a Platinum-Electrode
Absorption and oxidation of thiocyanate on a platinum electrode were measured. Experimental results and thermodynamic calculations indicate that adsorption of sulphur from thiocyanate solutions with simultaneous liberation of cyanide ions is taking place. If the electrode surface is covered by adsorbed hydrogen, during the adsorption of thiocyanates the adsorbed atoms of hydrogen are displaced by adsorbed sulphur. At potentials higher than approximately 0.7 V the adsorbed sulphur is oxidized to sulphate anions.
