An Investigation into the Discharge Capacity Loss for Composite Insertion Electrodes Based on Lixv6O13
XRD and electrochemical methods were performed on the Li/LixV6O13 system in order to assess the degree of reversibility of the lithium insertion reaction following an extended cycling regime. The effect of repeated Li+ insertion did not result in any significant change in the V6O13 diffraction pattern. Constant current cycling and Electrochemical Voltage Spectroscopy (EVS) measurements confirm the excellent reversibility of the oxide. A slight capacity loss was observed following around 180 deep discharge cycles mainly associated with the lower voltage plateau around 2.10V vs. Li/Li+. The implications are discussed in terms of the Li insertion process and the mechanical and electrical properties of the V6O13 composite electrode.
