Catalytic bimetallic nanoparticles are synthesized by exploiting the interaction between peptides and inorganic materials to program the peptide sequence such that it can serve as a template in the synthesis of gold nanoparticles as well as direct the binding to Pd ions to the surface of the An nanoparticles (see figure).
