A compact device for the efficient, electrically driven generation of highly circularly polarized light
A novel, compact, and simple-to-manufacture photon recycling device, which is driven by a polymer light emitting diode (LED), generates highly circularly polarized light. The device (see Figure) is based on a chiral nematic liquid crystal and it uses the metal cathode of the LED simultaneously as electrode and as recycling mirror of the recycling structure.
