Review: The photochemical processes in donor-linked fullerenes depend on the donor (zinc porphyrin in the Figure), the spacer or linkage between the donor and C-60, and the solvent. Following a brief review of the synthesis and photophysical properties of donor-linked C-60, findings are presented that suggest a new strategy for the design and synthesis of artificial photosynthetic systems and photoactive materials using C-60 as a building block.
