Research News: The epitaxy of polymers is a useful way of introducing high degrees of orientational order to otherwise disordered materials. A recently discovered method-polymerization-induced epitaxy (PIE)-based on the polymerization of monomers (instead of recrystallization from solution) is briefly reviewed. The polymerization conditions and the film structures are considered. It is shown that film formation is independent of the reaction mechanism.
