Chiral liquid-crystalline phases are of great interest due to their nonlinear optical and ferroelectric properties. Side-chain FLCPs (ferroelectric liquid crystal polymers) are known but no main chain FLCPs have been reported, only a limited number of FLC dimers which are used as models for the main chain compounds being known. Here, a new dimer is presented (see figure) which exhibits a high spontaneous polarization.
