CROSS-LINKING IN WATER-ABSORBENT POLYMERS
Super-absorbant polymers based on poly(acrylic acid) networks are formed by radical copolymerization of the monomer with small amounts of certain cross-linking agents. The structure of the polymer network has a major bearing on the performance of the product. It can be influenced during the polymerization by several parameters, among which the functionality and the reactivity of cross-linked agenting are the most important. The various factors involved are discussed.
