The simplest model of stepped surface has been constructed and scrutinized with different values of model parameters. The transfer matrix method was shown to be a very effective approach. Phase diagrams and local isotherms have been obtained. It was shown that the local coverage can be the non-monotonous function of the total coverage or the chemical potential. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V.
