Numerical Approximation to a Moving Boundary-Problem for the Sphere
A variational formulation is used to solve a moving boundary problem in a sphere. The fixed-domain and the finite element methods are employed to obtain the motion of the reaction front and concentration profiles. The times to complete reaction are given for various values of the density of nondiffusing reactant in the particle and compared with previous results.
