Control and the Future of Technology
The rapid development of computing and control is reviewed and placed in a historical context. Two examples are given to illustrate the present discrepancy between the way in which we deal in the design of systems with the human and the mechanical components, and this discrepancy is traced to the inadmissibility of purpose in our science-based technology. An alternative way of regarding science and technology is suggested.
