A Minlp Strategy for the Debottlenecking Problem in an Ethane Extraction Plant
The extraction of ethane from natural gas is based on a turboexpansion process at cryogenic temperatures. Significant improvement can be achieved by introducing minor plant structural modifications. The presence of discrete decisions to account for different process configurations leads to a Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINLP) optimization model. The program has been used to simultaneously determine the optimal configuration and operating conditions for different feed mixtures.
