We have applied essentially the same equation based model to a pair of distillation columns with difficult non ideal and azeotropic behaviour, sequentially, for steady state design, control studies and operator training during a major, ’live’ project. It is shown that carrying the same model forward from one modelling mode to another in this way is efficient, saves time and an appropriate method that should be adopted more widely in the chemical industry.
