The growth angle and particular case of stabilization of the shape of the crystallized small drops of the melt
Experimental observations show that during crystallization the small drops of the melt often form the cone at the end stage of the crystallization process. Theoretical analysis of the crystallization process of the melt drop, which has the shape of a spherical segment, has shown that under certain conditions, which can be met rather often in practice, can actually form the right cone, the apex angle of which is stabilized by the crystallization process physics. In this case, the angle of the cone apex simply depends on the crystal growth angle and does not depend on the initial terms of the process, It allows to determine the growth angles easier and more exact. The comparison of the proposed method of the growth angle determination with the other earlier known ones has been made. Good agreement of the results has been obtained for Si, Ge, and InSb. Growth angles for GaP and InP have also been measured. (C) 2002 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
