Crystal growth of Trans-stilbene by vertical Bridgman technique with modified growth vessels and its characterisation
Single crystals of Trans-stilbene have been grown from zone purified material in an all glass resistive heated oven. The vital factors governing the successful growth of trans-stilbene single crystals by vertical Bridgman technique (VBT) have been investigated, viz the purification, shape of the growth vessel, growth rate without altering the temperature gradient etc. Powder X-ray diffraction studies were made to determine the lattice parameters for the grown crystals. FTIR studies have been made to identify the various functional groups present in the crystal. The timing resolution for stilbene crystal by using Na-22 (511 keV) gamma ray have been studied.
