Application of hydrophobic membrane for alcohol separation from alcohol/aqueous biphase mixture
This study examines the availability of hydrophobic microfiltration membrane for phase separation of an alcohol/aqueous mixture. The single alcohol phase could be obtained as the permeate without any visible leak of aqueous phase. The flux of 1-hexanol was the highest among seven different alcohol/aqueous mixtures. The separability and alcohol flux were significantly affected by both the alcohol solubility in water and the alcohol viscosity. Continuous membrane separation of 1-hexanol phase from aqueous/1-hexanol mixture could be performed stably.
