Phenanthroline-stabilized palladium nanoparticles in polyethylene glycol - an active and recyclable catalyst system for the selective hydrogenation of olefins using molecular hydrogen
1,10-Phenanthroline-stabilized palladium nanoparticles dispersed in a polyethylene glycol (PEG) matrix is synthesized which is found to be a stable and active catalyst for the selective hydrogenation of olefins using molecular hydrogen under mild reaction conditions. A variety of olefins are hydrogenated to their corresponding alkanes with good to excellent yield at room temperature. The catalyst is easily separable and recyclable. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V.
