Bifunctional catalysis of ester hydrolysis: novel hydrolytic enzyme models based on xanthene framework
Xanthene framework has been derivatized to carry adjacent hydrolytically active units. A comparison was made between the hydrolytic activities of the Zn(II) complexes of xanthene derivatives with two cyclen (5), one cyclen and one imidazole (7), and one cyclen and one hydroxymethyl (12) units. The cyclen-imidazole carrying derivative showed the largest rate acceleration (5700-fold), demonstrating the efficiency of multifunctional catalysis. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
