Iron-sulfur carbonyl compounds with unique terminal thioether ligation modeling for the active site of [Fe]-only hydrogenases
Model compounds of the H-cluster of the [Fe]-only hydrogenase, Fe-2{mu-S(CH2)(3)S)(CO)(5)S(CH2CH3)(2), Fe-2{mu-(CH2)(3)S }(CO)(5) {S(CH2CH3)C6H5}center dot 0.5THF, and Fe-2{mu(CH2)(3)S}(CO)(5){S(CH2CH3)CH2CH2Cl} have been synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction, spectroscopy, and electrochemistry. Organic thioethers were introduced by simple method as terminal S-ligation to simulate the cystine-S linkage between the 2Fe unit and cuboidal [4Fe4S] moiety.
