1,4-Addition of arylboronic acids to alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones was smoothly catalyzed by palladium(O) phosphine complexes with chloroform in the presence of base. It is remarked that the palladium(O) complexes have no catalytic activity in the absence of chloroform. The reaction proceeded without P-hydride elimination.
