A new class of hydrophobic ionic liquids: Trialkyl (2-methoxyethyl)ammonium perfluoroethyltrifluoroborate
New hydrophobic ionic liquids consisting of trialkyl(2-methoxyethyl)ammonium ([(RRRNCH2CH2OCH3)-R-1-R-2-N-3](+), R-1, R-2, R-3 = CH3 or C2H5) cation and perfluoroethyltrifluoroborate ([C2F5BF3](-)) anion were prepared by neutralization of aq. [R1R2R3NCH2CH2OCH3][OH] with aq. H[C2F5BF3]. The new [C2F5BF3](-)-based ionic liquids show much lower melting points and viscosities (58-86 cP at 25 degreesC), hence higher ionic conductivities, than the [BF4](-)-based ones.
