Does photoisomerization proceed in an ionic liquid?
Photoisomerization of Irans-stilbene has been investigated in an ionic liquid, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate( [bmim] PF6). It has been found that the photo-isomerization indeed proceeds in this ionic liquid with a rate much larger than that expected from its polarity and shear viscosity.
