Three peaks at 530, 532, and 533 eV in the X-ray photoelectron spectrum of O 1s region for palladium-modified cerium oxide after reduction with hydrogen at 573 K can be attributed to Ce4+-O-Ce4+, Ce4+-O-Ce3+, and Ce3+-O-Ce3+ on the surface, respectively.
