Chemical oscillations induced by flow transports
In this study, we report the observation of oscillatory phenomena in a coupled chemical system induced by flow transports. The chemical system is nonreactive and flow transports build a linear feedback to manifest the concentration of chemical species in each reactor. Oscillations become possible when the number of reactors in the coupled array is greater than 2, where complex eigenvalues emerge. Both simple and complex oscillations can be obtained, depending on initial compositions of the combined system. This study suggests that. in addition to connecting subunits, mass transports may have profound impacts on the dynamics of coupled systems. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
