Sequence Distribution and Thermal Properties of PB(DBA-T) Copolymers

Poly[butylene(dibasic acid-co-terephthalate)] (PB (DBA-T) copolymers were synthesized by the catalyzed esterification and polycondensation between dibasic acid (DBA), terephthalic acid (TPA), and 1,4-butanediol (BD). Their sequence distributions and thermal properties were also characterized by 1H-NMR spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). For PB (DBA-T) copolymers, it was confirmed by statistical analysis from 1H-NMR spectroscopic data that the degree of randomness (B) approached unity. The melting temperature behavior of PB(DBA-T) copolymers obviously depended on the TPA component in copolymers as well as the reaction temperature and time.
