Porous Layered Carbon as Catalyst Support Material for PEMFC
E-mail:
Porous layered carbon was prepared by using a kenyaite template. PFO (pyrolyzed fuel oil) was intercalated into the interlayers of kenyaite and pyrolyzed. Removal of the template left porous layered carbon only. The carbon morphology was of the plate type; each plate was composed of several carbon layers. The specific surface area was increased to a high as 596 m2/g and was dependent on template type, the mixing ratio of PFO, the pyrolysis temperature, and the pyrolysis time. The I-V characteristics of PEMFC using Pt/PLC were obtained at various operating remperatures. Electrodes prepared using Pt/PLC give different results according to the operating temperature. The performance of MEA operated at 80℃ was the best among all of the other operating temperatures. The fuel cell voltages at current dunsities of 500 and 1000 mA/cm2 were 644 and 410 mV, respectively.
