Preparation and Properties of Polyimide/Organoclay Nanocomposites from Soluble Polyisoimide
E-mail:
A polyisoimide based on 4,4'-oxydiphthalic dianhydride and 1,3-bis(4-aminophenoxybenzene) was synthesized and used for the preparation of nanocomposites with commercial organoclays through the solution dispersion technique. The cast composite films were heat-treated to convert them into polyimide nanohybrid films. Homogeneous dispersions were obtained at lower clay contents (below 3 wt%), which was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and transission electron microscopy analyses. The nanocomposites displayed improved thermal and mechanical properties, as were evaluated by thermal analysis and tensile measurements.
