Reaction Chemistry and Reaction-Engineering Principles in Catalyst Design
A strategy for the design of new catalyst systems is outlined. Using information from known reaction chemistries, novel catalyst systems can be prepared by "remodeling" the known catalysts to effectively combine their reaction chemistries with known reaction engineering concepts. Three examples of this strategy are illustrated. A brief discussion concerning the future prospects for this strategy of catalyst design is presented.
