Gas-Phase Hydrodynamics in Bubble-Columns
For bubble columns, both the influence of bubble size distribution and liquid circulation within the column result in a bubble rise velocity distribution for the gas phase. We previously determined that a convective model may be a more appropriate description of gas phase behaviour than the more commonly used axial dispersion model. In this paper, we present bubble velocity distributions and the method for calculating them using a fully convective model. It is shown that the bubble velocity distribution is affected by the superficial gas velocity. Correlations for the mean, mode and standard deviation of the distribution are proposed as a function of superficial gas velocity for an air-water system.
