Limitations in microelectrochemical capillary cell testing and transformation of electrochemical transients for acquisition of microcell impedance data
Microelectrochemical testing which employs the use of microcapillaries has become wide spread over the past decade. Although the possibilities of the method are recognized, certain aspects of the method relevant to routine users have not yet received individual discussion. This communication discusses issues which should be considered in the course of good practice for reliable collection of electrochemical data from the microcell method. Furthermore, the presentation of impedance data from such methods remains scarce. In the present work we propose the use of time-to-frequency transformation to be an effective method for obtaining impedance information using microelectrodes. Advantages of this approach include: minimization of test duration, minimizing the risk of perturbation induced mass transport issues, minimizing the effects of large electrolyte resistance, and not violating stationary conditions. © 2005 Elsevier Ltd.
