Putting quality information in the hands of oil and gas knowledge workers
As a result of a merger followed by a major acquisition and property exchange, many nonintegrated legacy systems and inconsistent information-management practices existed in the company. In 1998, an enterprise resource planning system was implemented. Although the system brought greater functionality and some integration, hundreds of legacy systems and inconsistent data practices remained. Information was difficult to analyze. Initial feasibility studies indicated that, on average, workers spent 40% of their time searching for and scrubbing data. An enterprise architecture plan (EAP) was implemented to improve information-management practices.
