Uncatalyzed oxidation of cyclooctene
Cyclooctene was oxidized in the liquid phase by molecular oxygen, and the oxidation kinetics were studied in a batch reactor. Cyclooctene oxide, cyclooctenone, and cyclooctyl hydroperoxide were obtained as oxidation products in the temperature range of 343-373 K. The oxidation was found to be dominated by an addition mechanism, thereby resulting in higher selectivity toward epoxide. The kinetic data were fitted in a rate equation based on autocatalysis by total products. The values of the rate constants and activation energy were determined using the power law model.
