US E&P waste-management survey results
The American Petroleum Inst. (API) conducted a survey of onshore oil and gas E&P operations and natural-gas processing plant operations. The survey sought data for 1995 on current drilling practices, drilling and production waste volumes, and current practices for management of waste and produced water. The survey was designed to update a similar survey of E&P waste management conducted by the API in 1985. The full-length paper presents the survey findings and compares the 1995 and 1985 survey results for produced water, drilling waste, and other associated waste. Between 1985 and 1995, total waste volume generated by the oil and gas industry decreased from 21.3 billion bbl in 1985 to 18.1 billion bbl in 1995.
