Formation of Organophilic [DEACOOH]/Montmorillonite Intercalation Complexes
E-mail:
In this study, an organic cationic salt, [DEACOOH] Br, having a long alkyl chain was synthesized to replace the metal ions located between the layers of Na-montmorillonite. Organophilic [DEACOOH]/montmorillonite intercalation complexes were formed by the cation exchange reaction between Na-montmorillonites (from Korea and Turkey) and the synthesized [DEACOOH] Br. After drying these intercalation complexes under high vacuum, we obtained basal spacings of 14.2 and 15.0 Åfor the Korean and Korean and Turkish clays, respectively.
