Synthesis and Characterization of Polymethylsilsesquioxane-based Hybrid Polymers
E-mail:
The preparation of polymethylsilsesquioxane (PMSQ) copolymers having the composition -[MeHSiO]0.3 [MeSi(O)1.5]0.7- was investigated. The reaction variables, such as the amounts of solvent and catalyst and the reaction time and temperature, had a great influence on the molecular weight and the polydispersity. PMSQ copolymer was unstable: it transformed into an intractable gel after it became pure liquid by removing the solvent. This high reactivity of PMSQ copolymer can be controlled by modification of the Si-H groups in its backbone using Pt-catalyzed hydrosilylation reactions. The hydrosilylation of PMSQ with organic functional groups also provides copolymers that have further processibility toward coating application. These polymers were characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy and by and GPC. TGA was used to investigate the thermal stabilities of these polymers.
