Esthetic Properties of Acryl-based Polymeric Dental Restorative Composites
Effect of tertiary amine photo-accelerator on the esthetic properties of visible light-activated polymeric dental restorative composites (PDRC) was investigated. The surface of barium silicate (avg. diameter: 1 μm) was hydrophobically treated with γ-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane to improve the interfacial behavior with the resin matrix composed of 2,2'-bis-[4-(3-methacryloxy-2-hydroxypropoxy)phenyl]-propane (70 wt%) triethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (30 wt%) in PDRC. A half wt% of camphorquinone was adopted as a photo-initiator and various amine reagents which contents were varied from 0.2 to 3.0 wt% based on the resin matrix were used as a photo-accelerator. In the present study, effect of photo-accelerator on the esthetic properties of PDRC was characterized by measuring the Hunter L, a, and b values using a colorimeter. Also, scanning electron microscopy was utilized to investigate the surface characteristics of PDRC prepared herein.
