This paper describes the development of an innovative workover-riser system for 3000-m water depth. A 3000-m-long umbilical would require a large and very heavy hose reel and would delay the running time significantly. Accordingly, the system was designed to operate without an umbilical while being as reliable as or even more reliable than conventional umbilicals.
