A Solid-State Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell Constructed using a Gel Polymer Electrolyte

A gel polymer electrolyte was prepared by immersing the porous membrane, based on acrylonitrilemethyl methacrylate copolymer, in an organic electrolyte solution containing the I3-/I- redox couple. The ionic conductivity of the gel polymer electrolyte reached 3.0 × 10-3 S/cm at room temperature; the electrolyte solution was encapsulated well in the gel polymer electrolyte by physical gelation without solvent leakage. A solid-state dye-sensitized solar cell was assembled employing the gel polymer electrolyte and a dye-sensitized nanoporous TiO2 electrode. The cell exhibited an open circuit potential of 0.70 V, a short circuit current of 0.39 mA/cm2, and a conversion efficiency of 1.84%.
