Acid Properties and Catalytic Activities of Titanium Sulfate Supported on γ-Alumina
E-mail:
Titanium sulfate supported on γ-Al2O3 catalysts were prepared by impregnation of powdered γ-Al2O3 with an aqueous solution of titanium sulfate followed by calcining in air at high temperatures. For Ti(SO4)2/γ-Al2O3 samples calcined above 400 ℃, a diffraction line of an anatase phase was observed that is due to the decomposition of titanium sulfate The acidity of the catalysts increased in proportion to the titanium sulfate content up to 40 wt%. This 40 wt% Ti(SO4)/2/γ-Al2O3 calcined at 500 ℃ exhibited the maximum catalytic activities for 2-propanol dehydration and cumene dealkylation. The catalytic activities for both of these reactions were correlated with the acidity of the catalysts, which we measured by the ammonia chemisorption method.
