Electrodeposition of ZnMn alloys using pulse plating
Zinc-manganese alloys were electrodeposited from a citrate-ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid electrolyte using pulse plating. The influence of the pulse parameters (current density, duty cycle, and pulse frequency) on the alloys' properties and current efficiency was analyzed. By correctly selecting these parameters, pulse plating improved some coatings' properties, mainly their morphology and structure. Results indicated that at high current densities, where a mixture of phases was always obtained using direct current, pulse plating enabled pure manganese to dissolve during off-time, and this allowed us to obtain monophasic alloys with a high manganese content.
