Successful horizontal producers in Midway-Sunset thermal operations
Since 1966, more than 50 medium-radius horizontal producing wells have been drilled in the Monarch formation in South Midway. Because-most wells are-drilled in the dip direction with a basal lateral placement, these horizontal wellbores expose the entire Monarch sand section to production. and provide a means to produce the lowermost oil-bearing strata economically. Vertical-well development alone would leave portions of the reservoir undeveloped because of the steep formation dip.
