Preliminary data of a tunnel spectroscopy study of tip-generated Cu clusters on Au(111) in sulphuric acid solutions are presented, and compared with spectra for bulk Cu and a Cu monolayer on Au(111). The tunnel spectra of the Cu clusters show a characteristic noise that appears to be an inherent property of the clusters. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
