Effect of specific oxygen uptake rate on Enterobacter aerogenes energetics: Carbon and reduction degree balances in batch cultivations
The effect of oxygen availability on the metabolism of Enterobacter aerogenes NCIMB 10102 was studied through batch fermentations of glucose performed increasing the specific oxygen uptake rate up to 72.7 mmol(O2) C-mol(DW)(-1) h(-1). The final concentrations of fermentation products of this biosystem (2,3-butanediol, hydrogen, acetoin, formate, acetate, carbon dioxide, ethanol, lactate, succinate, and biomass) were utilized to check the use of simple carbon mass and reduction degree balances for the study of microbial energetics even in batch cultivations.
