Development of Gasoline Fuel Reformer for Fuel Cell Vehicles : Water Gas Shift (WGS) Reaction
An emerging application for the WGS reaction is on-board purification and production of H2 for fuel cell powdered vehicles. To develop a high performance WGS catalyst, we have studied WGS reaction over 1%Pt/CeO2, 40%Ni/CeO2 and the transition metal carbides catalysts. The performance of the prepared catalysts were compared with these of a commecial LTS catalyst. The results demonstrate that transition metal carbides are attractive candidates for development an alternate LTS catalyst for automotive applications. It was found that 1%Pt/CeO2 catalyst was more active than the LTS catalyst at a high temperature more than 250 ℃. The development of these materials could lead to substantial reductions in the size, weight and cost of WGS reactors.
