Redefining static gel strength requirements to control shallow water flows
The decay of hydrostatic pressure resulting from static cement gel-strength development results in an underbalanced condition that can initiate shallow water flow (SWF). The full-length paper describes a method to determine the length of time that the cement column will be susceptible to SWFs on the basis of cement gel-strength history and critical gel strength (CGS) for specific well conditions.
