Cathodic immobilization of pi-acceptors such as aromatic ketones onto platinum interfaces under superdry conditions
Metal/electrolyte reduced phases of general stoichiometry (Pt-2(-), 2M(+), X-) cathodically formed at the platinum interface in the presence of electrolyte (MX), may unexpectedly react with pi-acceptors. Such an immobilization of aromatic ketones and their reduced forms has been demonstrated by coulometry and electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance analysis. This temporary immobilization at the platinum interface could orientate coupling reactions.
