Scaling up the styrene butyl methacrylate copolymerisation reaction
The scale-up of benzoyl peroxide initiated copolymerisation of styrene and butyl methacrylate is studied here. The reaction is carried out in reactors of 3, 10 and 100 1 volume. Increasing the reactor size increases the weight average molecular weight and broadens the molecular weight distribution. Reducing the agitator diameter broadens the molecular weight distribution.
