Photophysical Properties of Poly(octanedioxy-co-dmPPV) Copolymer
E-mail:
The concentration, solvent, and temperature-dependent luminescence of a poly(p-phenylenevinylene) copolymer investigated. The concentration was found to affect the emission intensity, and the maximum intensity was observed at a concentration of 1.6 X 10(-3) wt%. The concentration effect resulted from a self-absorption and steric interaction between the polymer chains. The solvent polarity also affected the maximum emission wavelength. The dipole-dipole interaction between the polymer chain and the solvent increased as the solvent polarity increased, resulting in a small blue shift of the emission maximum up to 435 nm. At a low temperature, 14 K, a small red shift by 6 nm was observed compared with that at room temperature, which resulted from an increase in the effective conjugation length due to the rigidity of the polymer chains at a low temperature.
