Influence of pH in the elimination of boron by means of reverse osmosis
The European Union (EU) stipulates the maximum admissible value for the concentration of boron at 1 ppm and the World Health Organization (WHO) at 0.3 ppm as the non-observed effect level (NOEL) for drinking water. The content of boron in water can be reduced by means of various processes. Treatment by means of conventional reverse osmosis only reduces the boron content by 60%. This paper analyzes the possibility of treating the permeate water in a way that increases the pH.
