Optical properties of multiple sites of Eu3+ in SrY2O4 single-crystal fibers
Polycrystal pellets and single-crystal fibers of SrY2O4 doped with Eu3+ were prepared. Spectroscopic studies reveal that the Eu3+ ions occupied three nonequivalent sites, with two at Y3+ sites and one at Sr2+ sites. Their emission lines for D-5(0) to F-7(0) transition are located at 578.1, 580.0, and 581.0 nm, respectively. Dominant emission originates from D-5(0) to F-7(2) transitions in the spectral range 611-616 nm. The corresponding charge-transfer transitions are strong broad bands with intensity three or four orders of magnitude stronger than the 4f intraconfiguration transitions located near 320, 255, and 244 nm, respectively, in single crystal fibers.
